Pecha Kucha Dallas
The Pecha Kucha Dallas event went off with smashing success! Jonathan and Melissa's co-presentation was extremely well recieved and the entire panel of presenters displayed an eclectic array of works of art from recycled plastic sculpture to comic book graphics, to socially consvious art engagements.

PechaKucha Night Dallas
Jonathan Brown and Melissa Joesoef have been selected to present at PechaKucha night Dallas on June 24th 2010. Their presentation will be entitled "Urban Color" or "There are too Many Brown Buildings". The event is sponsored by the AIA Dallas Young Architect’s Forum and will be hosted at the Dallas Center for Architecture.

Mixed-income housing development replaces St. Bernard projects
The Bayou District at City Park continues to impressed the community and local leaders. As reported by WWL Channel 4 news in New Orleans, the redevelopment of the old St. Bernard Housing has created a new community for the residents. A resident noted about the city, the developer & the design “Now we don't have to worry about whether you will do what you said you will do. You have earned your credibility with the work that you've done.” City officials cut the ribbon on the development this last Monday. “We've turned this crisis into an opportunity to transform this former St. Bernard site into a revitalized community, linking residents more closely,” said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.

The Bayou District at City Park Garnishes Public Accolades as a "Holistic Community"
The The Bayou District at City Park has received mounting public recognition as a prime example of holistic community design, and a possible model for the redevelopment of other areas of New Orleans. Currently under construction, the new community will include a mix of housing. The first phase of development will bring 466 units of two and three story residential town homes, including 157 public housing units, 160 tax-credit units than can be rented using rental assistance vouchers, and 149 market rate rental units.

JHP Associates Publish Multi-Housing News Article
Jonathan R. Brown, MACM, and Kirby Zengler, AIA recently publish an article on Whole Community Design (WCD) and its merits in these challenging economic times. What is WCD? Initiated in 2008, Whole Community Design was developed by JHP's staff to serve as a research and education forum focusing the advancement of sustainable design issues, TND planning philosophies, and the identification of real estate development trends.

Five East Multifamily - Rocky Terrain
JHP has long said "all the easy sites are gone". That said, JHP approaches every site plan as a unique design challenge knowing that design decisions made early on run the life of the project. The attached Multifamily Executive Magazine (MFE), Sales + Solutions article describes the difficulties associated with a steeply sloping site in Atlanta and chronicles the lengths the Owner, Pollack Partners and JHP went through to render this site viable for development.

Fort Hood Housing Earns LEED Silver Certification
Newly constructed single-family homes designed by JHP recently received LEED for Homes - Silver Certification. The first 26 home sites were certified LEED silver designation at the Patton Park Neighborhood on the Fort Hood Army base.

SWMD is Published in Texas Architect Magazine
JHP's Cityville Southwestern Medical District (SWMD) project has been published in the July/August issue of Texas Architect magazine. The article details the design and ongoing build-out of the JHP designed SWMD master plan.

Transit Oriented Development Coming to Carrollton
The City of Carrollton, TX has approved an agreement to formalize the relationship between the City and High Street Residential, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Trammell Crow Company, on a Downtown Carrollton Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) project; all of which is in preparation of the arrival of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) light rail in 2010. JHP provided initial TOD planning services to High Street Residential under this agreement.

Affordable Housing Design in 2020

Fort Hood Housing Goes Green
A ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday marked the opening of Fort Hood's new Green Community of 23 new homes. The new housing is part of senior leadership's focus to improve the quality of life in post housing. Fort Hood's expansion marks the opening of the first of the post's two green communities and will ultimately have over 230 new Green homes.

MFE Design Award Winners Announced, JHP Wins Three
JHP received top honors at the 2008 Multifamily Executive Magazine awards program. Columbia Senior Residences at MLK won Project of the Year in the Senior Housing category. In addition, Erickson Windrest won a Merit Award loosing out to JHP's top prize winner MLK Seniors. Finally, Columbia Mechanicsville won a Merit Award in the Mixed-Income Category.

Construction underway on Citi Residences at Bayou District
JHP recently attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Columbia Citi Residences at Bayou District. The event was attended by federal, state and local officials as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development broke ground for construction. The program Welcome and Introductions was led by Diane Johnson of the Housing Authority of New Orleans.

With site work and infrastructure now done, High Street Residential and USAA Real Estate Co. are starting vertical work for a transit-oriented development to add 189 apartments and 20,000 sf of retail to the historic downtown.
