After a key anchor store went out of business at a prominent local mall in Austin, the mall owners posed the question to JHP of wanting to know different concepts the space could take on. The client wanted to explore what could be designed in the vacant space, while maintaining integration into the parts of the mall that were still thriving. Our Planning team studied the site, went through many sketches and concepts, and eventually delivered two refined options. Crucial considerations within the project included exploring what mix of uses could be put in, ways to cohesively flow with the existing mall stores, and finding creative ways to make this a desirable destination. As is the key in any mall transformation that we do, creating value through a sense of place was the primary goal.
