Criswell College is a protestant college in Old East Dallas, Texas. JHP was commissioned to design the first on-campus Student Housing, the Mary L.A. Stanton and Lance E. Ouellette Resident Hall. The 5-story Lance’s Hall has 57 units and 109 beds. The plan is efficient and accommodating, with communal study and meeting rooms, laundry areas, designated rooms for the Resident Assistants and a communal kitchen and dining room on each level. This concept considered sensitivity to the existing campus, which is primarily based on neo-classical styles and is near a historic district. Cast-stone belt courses, rusticated wall detailing, and acroteria give Lance’s Hall an art-deco basis, as influenced by the most adjacent addition to the campus.
