Mechanicsville

Atlanta, GA

Mechanicsville, named for the “mechanics” that worked on the railway line in the late 1800’s, is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to the Hope VI redevelopment this area was a public housing project associated with drugs and crime. Design and planning objectives were to blend in the neighborhood theme “mechanics-ville”. Industrial, warehouse, rustic metal with modernized details and urban touches are the architectural characteristics throughout this master plan. A major component of the redevelopment is the connection to the neighborhood park. The historic street grid was reestablished with pedestrian friendly walkable streets creating a high quality urban lifestyle in a historic neighborhood with great proximity to downtown.
