The Block Yard is a 344-unit development set to shape a new edge in the growing neighborhood of East Austin, Texas. Adjacent to the MLK Jr light rail station, this transit-oriented development capitalizes on its location as a node for connectivity to the greater Austin area. The site was formerly an industrial home to quarry rocks and masonry materials. To reflect this history, the development incorporates similar materials on the facades. Originally designed with commercial space in mind, the project re-imagines the ground floor as a flexible live/work environment for its residents. This design decision is a direct response to the shift in residential and market demands caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project also shares a spacious park with a nearby church, offering public space for its residents and church-goers alike.
