The Banks at Mill Village is a 2023 AHF Readers’ Choice Awards Finalist.
The Banks at Mill Village, a 2023 AHF Readers’ Choice Awards Finalist, is part of the broader transformation of Columbus, Georgia’s Mill District following decades of decline after the mills closed. By the early 2000s, the area faced significant economic hardship, with the aging Chase Homes public housing nearing 70 years old. Designated a Purpose Built Community in 2019, the neighborhood is being reimagined through mixed-income housing, wellness initiatives, and education pipelines.
The Banks replaces 102 outdated units with thoughtfully designed apartments on a steep site along the Chattahoochee River, oriented to capture views and connect to the riverfront trail. Inspired by historic mill architecture, the design uses brick materials and steps with the hillside to maintain a residential scale. Central to the development is the co-located MercyMed Health Clinic, offering accessible care, alongside amenities and supportive programs that enhance quality of life and long-term community stability.
