The 2026 Independent Lodging Congress (ILC) Confab in Jackson Hole brought together hospitality owners, operators, developers, designers, and community leaders to discuss what’s shaping the future of hospitality. For JHP Architecture’s Hospitality Studio, one message stood above the rest: great hospitality begins with authentic places.
Several themes resonated throughout the conference:
- Authenticity over imitation. Guests are seeking experiences rooted in local culture, character, and story—not manufactured destinations.
- Stewardship creates value. Protecting the natural and social spirit of a place isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s good business and strengthens long-term value.
- Community matters. The best hospitality projects connect visitors with the people, culture, and identity that make a destination unique.
- Collaboration drives better design. As one speaker reminded us, “If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.”
- Design with purpose. The conference closed with a question worth carrying into every project: “What are you building that people in your community will fight to save long after you’re gone?”
These conversations reinforce JHP’s belief that successful hospitality is about more than buildings. It’s about creating authentic destinations that people value, communities embrace, and guests remember.
