Vickery Meadow Improvement District

Project Details:

This study serves as both an offshoot of the Forward Dallas Comprehensive Plan and a neighborhood-scaled implementation effort advancing its broader goals. Commissioned independently by the motivated and proactive Vickery Meadows Improvement District (VMID), the privately led initiative undertook a comprehensive analysis of existing conditions, examining traffic patterns, pedestrian connectivity, land use, street networks, and the neighborhood’s social and demographic composition. Situated within one of Dallas’s most diverse communities, the district faces aging infrastructure and shifting growth pressures. Building on Forward Dallas principles, the study establishes a framework for targeted reinvestment, improved connectivity, and a more resilient, cohesive neighborhood structure.

JHP provided pro bono planning and advisory services to support the district in undertaking a privately initiated, non-city redevelopment study, offering strategic guidance, technical insight, and planning expertise throughout the process.

Challenge

As an extension of the Forward Dallas Comprehensive Plan, the Vickery Meadow Improvement District sought to address aging infrastructure, fragmented pedestrian systems, and shifting land-use and demographic conditions in one of Dallas’ most diverse neighborhoods. The district needed a clear planning framework to guide reinvestment at a neighborhood scale.

Solution

JHP provided pro bono planning and advisory services, supporting the district as it undertook a privately initiated (non-city) redevelopment study. The team conducted a comprehensive analysis of existing conditions—including traffic, pedestrian circulation, land use, street patterns, and social and demographic trends—to build an informed foundation for future improvements.

Impact

The study delivers a strategic roadmap that strengthens alignment with Forward Dallas goals, enhances neighborhood connectivity, and supports equitable, community-driven growth. Its recommendations position Vickery Meadow for long-term reinvestment and improved quality of life.
