The first phase of Columbia Brookside Master Plan is a senior housing complex which architecturally is designed to establish a dramatic entry into the remaining phases of the community housing. Upon entering the site, the senior complex flanks both sides of the road and is connected by a bridge which celebrates the entry to the site. The senior housing complex is visually terminated with an octagonal tower which remains lit at night and acts as a lighthouse or beacon for the community. The transitional spaces between the private realm (apartment units) and public realm (amenities) are meant to encourage socialization and recreation. The circulation through the glass bridge that connects the two buildings, functions as a viewing platform to sightsee from a bird’s eye.
