Museum Place Master Plan

Project Details:

Museum Place extends the Fort Worth Cultural District into a walkable, mixed-use neighborhood shaped by art, daily life, and public space. Set alongside the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the district carries the energy of the 7th Street Corridor west through comfortable streets, shaded sidewalks, and well-scaled plazas. A balanced mix of retail, dining, workplaces, hospitality, and residences creates an environment that feels both cultural and lived-in, with activity shifting naturally from morning coffee and daily errands to evening dining and neighborhood gathering, allowing Museum Place to function simultaneously as a destination and a true neighborhood–anchored by Fort Worth–s cultural institutions while reinforcing walkability, public life, and continuity within the Cultural District.

Challenge

JHP was tasked with repositioning an underutilized 11-acre site within Fort Worth–s Cultural District as a cohesive urban district. The primary challenge was coordinating a complex mix of retail, office, hospitality, entertainment, civic space, and housing within a nationally significant cultural setting, while establishing a clear organizing framework capable of evolving over time.

Solution

JHP crafted a multi-phased master plan structured around a legible network of streets, plazas, and pedestrian connections. Building massing and block patterns were carefully composed to define public spaces and support active ground-level uses. Signature projects–including One Museum Place and the Flatiron Building–anchor the district, integrating office and retail uses while orienting views and circulation toward the surrounding museum landscape.

Impact

The plan establishes a flexible yet cohesive mixed-use district that supports long-term growth while reinforcing public life and connectivity. Museum Place now functions as an integral extension of the Cultural District–balancing civic presence with everyday activity and strengthening the westward continuity of the 7th Street Corridor.
